Progressive Martial Arts TKD
Founded in 1998 by Master Rob Orbin, Progressive Martial Arts (PMA) was established with a clear vision: to create a powerful, evolving system that goes beyond the rigid walls of a single style. Our program is a unique blend, fusing the structured power of traditional martial arts with practical, modern-day self-defense techniques.
At the heart of our curriculum is Taekwondo, which translates as "The Way of the Foot and Fist." Taekwondo provides the strong foundation for all our students, teaching not just impressive kicks and hand techniques, but also the core values of focus, discipline, and respect.
Progressive Martial Arts emphasizes holistic development. This means you don't learn to seek confrontation; you learn how to defend yourself effectively, building a stronger, more resilient self in the process.
Whether you're stepping onto the mat for our Taekwondo classes, getting an intense workout in Cardio Kickboxing, or mastering ground control in Grappling, you are training within a tradition dedicated to empowerment and continuous self-improvement.
Students develop traditional martial arts skills in combination with modern & realistic self-defense techniques. Students also learn competition-level creative weapons and open hand forms.
Our primary goal is to develop traditional martial arts skills, forms, kicks, and blocks while fundamentally enhancing focus, physical fitness, discipline, and self-confidence in a supportive training environment.
The rotating curriculum balances physical technique with personal development, pushing students to achieve their full potential:
Traditional Technique & Forms: Develop proficiency in the foundational kicks, blocks, strikes, and prescribed forms (Kata) of Taekwondo. This builds muscle memory, coordination, and a deep understanding of the art.
Physical Fitness & Coordination: Classes are structured to significantly improve cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and dynamic balance, which are essential for martial arts mastery and daily life.
Focus and Discipline: Students learn to maintain mental focus for sustained periods through complex form practice and challenging drills. Discipline and respect are woven into every class through bowing, following commands, and managing gear.
Practical Self-Defense & Sparring: We teach realistic self-defense techniques and introduce controlled contact sparring to develop timing, distance management, and the ability to perform under pressure.
Goal Setting & Persistence: Through the belt ranking system, students learn to set long-term goals and develop the persistence needed to overcome physical and mental obstacles on their journey to Black Belt.
The programs use structured drills, partner work, and rigorous testing to ensure students not only master techniques but also develop the courage, resilience, and ethical character expected of a martial artist.
